GRAND
Imagine a séance in a chipper at 2 a.m., or a jazz funeral hijacked by Balkan clowns on unicycles — that’s sort of what GRAND sounds like. Or doesn’t. They’re slippery that way.
Born in Drogheda in 2014 during what was either a heatwave or a mass hallucination, GRAND have been mutating swing, trad, gypsy jazz, blues, and something they call feral folk into a sound that wobbles between brilliant and bonkers. You can try to label it — but it’ll likely wriggle out of your hands and bite you on the bum.
Regulars at Electric Picnic, Body & Soul, KnockanStockan, and Vantastival, GRAND serve up Originals, Oddities, and Rewired Classics with the energy of a band playing like it’s the end of the world — and they’re hosting the afterparty in a caravan made of sound. If your beak isn’t crispy by the end, you didn’t peck hard enough.
‘GRAND brought the house down with a hootenanny so intense that it would have put old King Louie from The Jungle Book to shame.’
