Jerry Fish
There’s a tendency for the word ‘unique’ to be bandied around a little too freely in music circles, but that’s the only way to describe Jerry Fish’s genre bending style. A highly charismatic performer who refuses to countenance audiences having anything but a good time. Jerry routinely fills the country’s biggest venues with his travelling musical medicine show, his swaggering vocal, generous and infectious smile and that fantastic vaudeville moustache.
Jerry Fish came to Ireland by way of Brixton, beginning as the main creative force and front-man of An Emotional Fish giving us the rock anthem ‘Celebrate’. Two decades on, his widely adored upbeat music includes the hit ‘True Friends’ and two platinum selling albums ‘Be Yourself’ and ‘The Beautiful Untrue’. Watching Jerry Fish doing his lounge lizard turn onstage evokes the smoky ghosts of Willy DeVille, Professor Longhair and Dr. John (Described as “Dean Martin doing Leonard Cohen” or “Tom Waits in a good mood”) with his rolling band of troubadours, Jerry Fish weaves a strange heady brew of punk latino, barrio blues, tropicalia and whatever you’re having yourself.
