Martina And The Moons
Martina And The Moons are an all female band based in Dublin.
With front woman and songwriter Martin Moon born in Scotland and raised in Spain, she moved over to Dublin in 2021 to pursue music and study in BIMM Dublin, while in BIMM and gigging, she met the rest of her band; Sarah Morgan (guitar), Zahira Ellis (drums) , Ruby Levins (bass) all from different parts of Ireland, who also came to Dublin to study and perform music.
Martina And The Moon’s songwriting borrows from the singer-songwriters of the 60s and 70s such as Paul Simon or Joni Mitchell, and their sound is leaning towards 90s rock and Brit- Pop mixed with elements of punk.
Some of their influences include Catatonia, Elastica, Sprints, Blur, Radiohead, etc.
Their lyrics talk about alienation and about yearning for connection, complemented by crunchy guitars, loud drums and catchy vocal melodies.
Their debut single, Emigrate, has accumulated over 8000 streams on Spotify, and has been featured on publications such as GCN Magazine or The Going Out Out Guide. Their second single, Omnibus Boners, has over 10,000 streams and has been described by Strephen Byrne (Golden Plec) as ‘the latest example of Irish ladies delivering the goods’
The band made an independent music video to go with the release of ‘Omnibus Boners’ ,The release gig for that single was independently ran in whelans upstairs and it sold out.
They have played in many venues in Dublin such as, Vicar st, Button Factory, Workmans main room, Workmans cellar, Whelans main room, Whelans upstairs, Opium, Sin é, the Grand Social, and Fibbers.
